Joint Statement signed in collaboration with the Mexican National Disaster Prevention Center

On November 28, 2024 (Mexico time), the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) at Kyoto University, the Mexican National Disaster Prevention Center (CENAPRED), the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mexico Office held a Joint Statement Signing Ceremony at CENAPRED.
This statement aims to strengthen international cooperation in disaster risk reduction, leveraging the On-Site Laboratory “International Research Laboratory for Earthquake and Tsunami Risk Cognition and Reduction (iLETs)” and the ongoing SATREPS project, “Compound Disaster Risk Reduction Associated with Large Earthquakes and Tsunamis.”
The agreement focuses on:
Utilizing joint research findings from Kyoto University’s DPRI and Mexican institutions to develop and enhance disaster risk reduction policies.
Strengthening collaboration between Mexican disaster management agencies and university networks to promote advanced research and the practical application of disaster mitigation strategies.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Kyoto University Vice President for International Strategy, Yasuyuki Kono, reaffirming Kyoto University’s commitment to global disaster resilience.
