Professors from Kyoto University gave lectures at the University of El Salvador, Santa Ana campus

On May 13, Associate Professors Tomoaki Nishikawa and Genta Nakano from the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University visited the Faculty of Multidisciplinarity of the Santa Ana Campus of the University of El Salvador to give lectures. The event was attended by approximately 40 people, mainly professors and students from the Department of Physics of this Faculty.

Dr. Nishikawa gave a presentation on the sliding behavior of the tectonic plate surface, estimated from repeated seismic activity off the coast of El Salvador. Dr. Nakano also explained the development of risk communication after the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan, highlighting the importance of promoting comprehensive research on risk reduction through collaboration between science, engineering, and social sciences.

In addition, Roberto Carlos Sigüenza, dean of the Santa Ana campus, and Benancio Henríquez, head of the Physics Department, expressed their expectations for continuing joint research in the future. After the lectures, the professors from Kyoto University interacted with students from the University of El Salvador and viewed their poster presentations.
